How to resize an image for Instagram
Instagram crops anything that isn't the right ratio. Here's how to size an image correctly for feed posts and stories in a few clicks.
Pick the right size
- Square post: 1080 × 1080 (1:1)
- Portrait post: 1080 × 1350 (4:5) — takes the most feed space
- Story / Reel: 1080 × 1920 (9:16)
Steps
- Open the social media image resizer and drop your image.
- Choose the Instagram preset (post, portrait or story).
- Adjust the crop so your subject stays centered in the safe zone.
- Export — the image is resized locally and downloads instantly.
Keep it sharp
Start from the highest-resolution source you have and downscale to the target size — never upscale a small image, which just adds blur. The resizer uses high-quality pica resampling so downscaled photos stay crisp.
