Favicon sizes: the complete guide
A modern site needs several favicon sizes for browsers, bookmarks and devices. Here's what each one is for, and how to make them all at once.
Sizes and what they're for
| Size | Use |
|---|---|
| 16 × 16 | Browser tab (classic) |
| 32 × 32 | Browser tab (retina), taskbar |
| 48 × 48 | Windows site icons |
| 180 × 180 | Apple touch icon (iOS home screen) |
| 192 × 192 | Android / PWA manifest |
| 512 × 512 | PWA splash + install icon |
Generate them from one image
Rather than exporting each size by hand, drop a single square image (512×512 or larger) into the favicon generator and it produces every size, packaged in a ZIP with a ready-to-paste HTML snippet.
